The Challenge

There are three words that really strike me deeply. Three words that bring an adrenaline inducing ferocity that makes me want to get up an take action. Those three words are: "I challenge you." And that's exactly what one of my co-workers, Erin, said. She may or may not have actually used those exact words though.

I used to swim competitively in high school and have only light-heartedly swam a few laps over the years. Erin on the other hand swam in high school, college, and is still swimming every morning with a US Master's team. A conversation with her about swimming somehow led to the need for a swim meet.

The Challenge (for me):
I have two months to get back into competitive shape to win. Though Erin's times aren't at her all time best either (all time being a 24sec 50 free and 54sec 100 free), I want to best my personal records (22sec 50 free, 24 sec 50 fly, and 53sec 100 free).

I work out three times a week as it is, but still nothing too strenuous, so I'm not starting off completely out of shape. Erin is going down!

What are things making this more difficult aside from the time-frame?
I have Crohn's Disease and Asthma. Crohn's is an inflammatory bowel disease that can affect the entire digestive system, producing a lot of pain, reducing appetite and not allowing my body to absorb nutrients. Hopefully the medicine I'm currently taking will finally give my system a break and allow me to eat what I need to in order to perform optimally. As for asthma, you already know what it is and probably how much it sucks. I get mad when these hold me back from things, so I'll be dealing with them as I try to push myself further than I have.
